TLI FAQ

Remember, the TLI test today was a PRE-test. It is ok if there was something you had not seen before the test. I didn't help anyone because I wanted to see what you knew and what kind of reasoning/test taking skills you have. We will get to everything on the test some time this year. I will cover it in detail then. For now, here's a quick run down of the "weirdest" stuff.

How do I put ___ power in the calculator?

There's a button that looks like this ^ called the carrot. 10 to the 4 power is typed 10^4. Or you could type it 10*10*10*10.

What is scientific notation?

Scientific notation is a way to write very large or very small numbers in shorter way.

157,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 is 1.57*10^23 in scientific notation.

0.000000000000000000023 is 2.3*10^-20 in scientific notation.

What is this symbol?

is a radical. It means to take the square root of the number. That is like the opposite of squaring it.  √25 =5 because 5² is 25.

is a cubed root. It is the opposite of cubing a number.
