What do these directions mean?

Horizontally

Left (negative) or right (positive)

Vertically

Up (positive) or down (negative)

Clockwise

The same way as the numbers on a clock.

The opposite of a clock

Try turning the paper.

These are rotations around the center, not a point on the shape but if you are having trouble seeing what the shape should look like at the end it helps.
